Dolgamedd camp site and river

Postcode:  LL40 2DG

Camping (camp fires allowed):  Dolgamedd is level, sheltered and nestled beside a river where campfires are allowed. No bar, no shop, they like it quiet. It is run by the Evans family, who own a farm nearby.  Swimming and Salmon fishing is available on site in the river Wnion, which is also popular with canoeists (when in flood).  There is a relatively new toilet block with launderette and camper’s kitchen with TV for wet days. They also have Wi-fi signal.

There are tarmac roads and spacious pitches available around the site but we recommend trying to get near the river where there are places to have fires and a refreshing paddle in the morning.

Exploring nearby:  It is an excellent base for sea and mountains and for mountain biking at Coed y Brenin nearby.  Enjoy both beach and town as this popular summer resort is fantastic for kids and adults looking for some fun.  There are some great shops as well as restaurants and cafés to keep everyone happy.

Coed y Brenin is the nearest town with stunning views across the bay

Wild swimming:  It is probably not a good idea to swim here in the winter because it is quite remote in places and the river will be fast and deep.  However, it is tucked away from the crowds and the perfect place to be if you want some peace and quiet in the summer months.

There are lots of little water falls and nice little pools to swim or wade in.  Don’t forget your wetsuit though because it is mostly shaded by the trees and the water gets cold.

Even the dogs get a chance to relax while you and the kids are having fun.  This is one of Grandma Ruby’s favourite spots.

We loved it so much we even put together a short video together for you.  Enjoy!
